Aylesham Welfare set for refurb when new operator takes over

8 June, 2020

Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre is due to reopen at the beginning of September when it will be operated by the West Faversham Community Association.

The centre and adjoining sports grounds, off Spinney Lane, have been closed since late March as a result of the Coronavirus lockdown. This move led to Your Leisure, who took over running the place last year, exercising its option to end its contract at the end of May with centre owners Aylesham & Snowdown Social Welfare Scheme.

WFCA won a two way pitch in April to take over running the premises and one of its directors, James Browning, has been appointed a consultant to work with the welfare committee in the meantime to plan for ‘the dramatic reopening of an attraction for all of the family’, from Tuesday 1 September.

In a statement this week, welfare committee chairman Jimmy Ritson said: “The future of the Aylesham Welfare Leisure Centre is assured.

“We intend to refurbish the centre and bring new attractions hopefully with the help of Section 106 development funding for Aylesham.

“Those friends of Aylesham Welfare can play their part by becoming members for the princely sum of £12 per year. If you would like to be kept up to date with progress of our plans contact updates@ayleshamwlc.org.”
