Parish council re-elects Chairman and Vice-Chairman

20 May, 2020

Aylesham Parish Council held its annual general meeting on Thursday 14 May when its Chairman, Mark Townsend, and Vice-Chairman, Ian Thomas, were re-elected.

The half hour long meeting, held via video link, heard from representatives of groups which have received funding from the parish council during the past 12 months.

Most recently, it has awarded £6,000 to local charity Bechange to enable it to provide a meal delivery service to dozens of residents facing hardship during the lockdown period.

Aylesham Carnival, Snowdown rugby club, Aylesham Twinning, Aylesham4Aylesham, Aylesham Heritage Centre and Your Leisure have been the other main recipients, supporting everything from hiring a marquee for an event, paying for summer activities, weekly drop in sessions or live music for the village summer fair. The total cost for these items was a further £5,400.

The parish council’s mainstream activities included working with the district council to install CCTV in the skate park, co-funding new village signs for Snowdown with county councillor Steve Manion and arranging for a permanent footpath to be laid around the village Christmas tree in Market Place. A lighting project in Market Place is on hold for the lockdown period.

The next monthly parish council meeting, which is expected to be held via video link, will be held on Thursday 11 June from 7pm. Members of the public who would like to view the meeting in progress should contact the clerk Kate Razzell beforehand by emailing her at ayleshamparishcouncil@btinternet.com.
