What’s On In and Around Aylesham – from Wed 19 April

This events list is compiled by Dover District Council. Don’t forget, our list of regular events happening in the village can be seen on their own page at the Aylesham Garden Village website,  Weekly mother & baby, parent & toddler groups are included along with youth club and library activities.

Wednesday 19 April 10am – 12pm – St Peters Church, Dorman Avenue North, weekly arts & crafts group meeting. Cups of tea, a chance to chat as well as enjoy either painting, drawing, knitting or sewing. No experience needed, please just turn up and meet the friendly group, everyone welcome.

Wednesday 19 April 10.30am – Walking football for over 50s at Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane. Simply turn up with a pair of trainers and a bottle of water to join in a gently paced version of the beautiful game. First session free and then £2 per time thereafter to cover the cost of equipment provided.

Wednesday 19 April 1pm-2.30pm – Bechange, Ackholt Road, Little Green Fingers Club with the aim of enabling small children to explore the charity’s community garden and learn about the environment through play and fun activities. The club costs £1 for the first child and 50p for every sibling. Free refreshments will be provided. Please dress for the weather! If it is bad, then activities will move indoors. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Wednesday 19 April 7pm-8pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Club, non contact rugby for boys and girls aged 11 years or more. Organised by Snowdown CW Rugby Club, no experience is needed and all equipment will be provided, just bring a bottle of water to drink. Admission charge applies. These weekly sessions are a result of new support from Premiership rugby club Harlequins.

Monday 24 April 7pm-8pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane, Beyond Limits Bootcamp for the village. Fitness sessions for adults and children. More information about ticket prices available from the leisure centre.

Tuesday 25 April – Aylesham Baptist Church, Dorman Avenue South. Youth club meetings led by Pie Factory Music in three sessions according to age group. 5-6.30pm – Junior session for children in school years four to seven. Activities include art and craft, music, games and table tennis. 6.30pm to 7pm – Training and development session for school years eight to 13. The accent is on train to be a volunteer, achieve awards, update CVs and improve employability. 7pm to 9pm – Senior session for young people in years eight to 13. Arts and crafts, music, games, table tennis, guidance and support. More information via www.piefactorymusic.com or call 01843 596777.

Saturday 6 May 11am – Aylesham Heritage Centre, Dorman Avenue North. Public unveiling of a new memorial garden and stone to commemorate the 57 miners lost at Snowdown colliery. Local residents have an open invitation to attend the ceremony.

Sunday 28 May – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane 11am. One mile long fun run (or walk if you prefer) in support of Pilgrims Hospice Canterbury, organised by the leisure centre. Entry is £5 per person. There will be prizes for the fastest male and female, fancy dress is optional. Live music, food and raffle in the bar afterwards as well. Entries accepted at the centre or register on the day.

Among the regular events held in Aylesham are dance classes organised by KCs Dancers. The  school is active six days a week.  You can view its website for times, venues and prices here.

  • Mondays – St Peter’s Church 9am to 11am Sunbeams parent & toddler group
  • Tuesdays – Baptist Church, between 10am and 11.30am
  • Wednesdays – Baptist Church, between 9.30am and 11.30am – when a health visitor will be attending.
  • Fridays – Baptist Church, between 9am and 11am
  • Fridays 9.45am – Aylesham Library, Ackholt Road (on Aylesham Project site) holds Big Talk Small Play for parents, carers and pre-school children. Volunteers needed to help, please! Contact Lynne Steward at the library on 03000 413131 if you can help.
