Wednesday 3 October 10am-12pm – Bechange Community Hub, Ackholt Road, Aylesham, one stop shop drop in service where you can discuss a range of issues with support workers including solicitors, community wardens and village PCSO Emma Carmichael. You may wish to discuss local crime, domestic abuse or anti-social behaviour as well.

Wednesday 3 October 7.30pm-9.30pm – Baptist Church, Dorman Avenue South. Weekly rehearsal for Snowdown Colliery Brass Band. Some instruments available. If it’s been a while since you last played, that doesn’t matter – feel free to come along and join in.

Thursday 4 October 9.30am-12pm – Aylesham library, Community Workshop site, Ackholt Road. Weekly Citizens Advice Bureau drop in session.

Friday 5 October 10am-2pm – Bechange Community Hub, Aylesham Project,  Ackholt Road. Join Bechange’s upcycling club. This involves taking old furniture and materials and making them into something new and beautiful. Great fun and good for the environment. This group is run every Friday for adults.

Friday 5 October 11.15am-1.30pm – St Peter’s Church, Dorman Avenue North. Friday lunch club for those aged 55 or more. £5 for a two course lunch, cuppa and a raffle. Mini market from 12pm to 1.30pm as well.

Friday 5 October 10am-12pm – Bechange Community Hub, Aylesham Project, Ackholt Road. Benefits and housing advice drop in session. These are held twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays to offer advice about benefit entitlements, bidding for social housing and help completing forms. The sessions include health advice from an NHS advisor. Simply turn up on the day.

Friday 5 October 7pm-8.30pm – St Peter’s Church, Dorman Avenue North. The newly formed  Aylesham Scout group meets every Friday evening for young people aged 11 or older.  Already 10 youngsters have joined with three volunteer staff.  If you think your child might be interested in joining, or you are willing to help run the group, please get in touch with leader Cassandra Osborne via 01304 841573 or 07488 243525.

Monday 8 October – St Peter’s Church, Dorman Avenue North 5.15pm to 6.30pm Aylesham’s Beavers groups weekly meeting for 6-8 year old boys and girls. Cubs (8-11) gather from 6.45pm to 8.15pm. Youngsters wanting to join the newly formed Scouts group will soon be able to meet at the church on Friday evenings between 7pm and 8.30pm. Tuesday 9 October 9.30am-11.30am – Bechange Community Hub, Aylesham Project, Ackholt Road. Weekly session to help people brush up on their Maths, organised by East Kent College from entry level to level two. Book a place by calling Bechange on 01304 840134.

Tuesday 9 October  6.10pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane. Drum n Bass Workout. 7pm Fierce- The Dance Workout for all ages (14+ with a participating adult).

Wednesday 10 October 10am-12pm – Aylesham Heritage Centre, Dorman Avenue South. All are welcome to drop in between these times to learn more about the history of the village as a whole. The centre features a highly regarded collection of coal mining memorabilia.

Wednesday 10 October 10am 12pm – St Peters Church, Dorman Avenue North, weekly arts & crafts group meeting. Cups of tea, a chance to chat as well as enjoy either painting, drawing, knitting or sewing. No experience needed, please just turn up and meet the friendly group, everyone welcome.

Thursday 11 October 7pm – Aylesham Parish Council holds its monthly meeting at the White House office in Dorman Avenue South. Residents are welcome to attend. Saturday 27 October 2pm – 5pm – The Beech Grove Community, Nonington, holds it annual open day and all are welcome to attend. Visitors will be able to enjoy horse wagon rides, children’s activities and a barbecue.

 

Regular activities at Bechange Community Hub

Every Wednesday Bechange holds its One Stop shop – an opportunity to come along and talk if anyone is suffering domestic abuse – between 10am and12pm.

Also on Wednesdays it hosts a One You Lifestyle advisor who is on hand to offer advice on health and lifestyle from 10am-12pm.

Swap Shop – come and swap those pre-loved but outgrown children’s clothes, toys and equipment. We have one coming up on Wednesday 3 October.

Games, Tools and Adventures (GTA) for 13-18 year olds – This follows the successful programme Bechange ran in the summer and is now looking for participants for its new programme beginning 17 September. There are 10 sessions at Bechange Community Hub’s hall and garden on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5pm-7pm. Sessions include a range of activities including archery, team building, outdoor cookery, learning to use tools and lighting fires and camping activities.

CSCS card training – This is a two day training course followed by a test which is completed at a test centre in Canterbury.

The course and the test are free. Participants can achieve a Level 1 award in construction and allows them to work on a construction site. Participants will receive a CSCS card within 2-3 weeks of passing.

Food 4 Thought (adults) – Starts Tuesday18 September and runs every Tuesday from 12.30pm -2.30pm for six sessions. They include cooking healthy meals and snacks in our kitchen and lots of ideas about meal planning, healthy eating and budgeting.

Little Green Finger Gang – A weekly parent/carer and toddler group (0-4 years) every Wednesday at 1pm-2.30 pm. Each week there is a fun craft, physical, imaginary & soft play and singing in our spacious hall. There is a small charge of £1 for the first child and 50p for additional siblings, this includes refreshments. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Maths entry level to level 2 provided by East Kent College – Tuesday 9.30am to 11.30am every Tuesday term time starting Tuesday 11 September. Learners are able to work in a friendly and supportive environment.

English entry level to level 2 provided by East Kent College – Thursday 9.30am to 11.30am every Thursday term time starting Thursday 13 September. Learners are able to work in a friendly and supportive environment.

Busy Bees – Games and pastimes every Thursday 10am to 2pm for adults. An opportunity to meet with others and play games such as Scrabble, Cluedo, bridge, dominoes. Busy Bees – Upcycling every Friday 10am-2pm for adults. Upcycling involves taking old furniture and materials and making them into something new and beautiful. Great fun and good for the environment too! No experience necessary.
