What’s On In And Around Aylesham – from Wed 5 September

Wednesday 5 September  10am-12pm – Bechange Community Hub, Ackholt Road, Aylesham, one stop shop drop in service where you can discuss a range of issues with support workers including solicitors, community wardens and village PCSO Emma Carmichael. You may wish to discuss local crime, domestic abuse or anti-social behaviour as well.

Thursday 6 September 9.30am-12pm – Aylesham library, Community Workshop site, Ackholt Road. Weekly Citizens Advice Bureau drop in session.

Friday 7 September 10am-2pm – Bechange Community Hub,  Aylesham Project,  Ackholt Road. Join Bechange’s upcycling club. This involves taking old furniture and materials and making them into something new and beautiful. Great fun and good for the environment. This group is run every Friday for adults.

Friday 7 September  10am-12pm – Bechange Community Hub, Aylesham Project, Ackholt Road. Benefits and housing advice drop in session. These are held twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays to offer advice about benefit entitlements, bidding for social housing and help completing forms. The sessions include health advice from an NHS advisor. Simply turn up on the day.

Monday 10 September – St Peter’s Church, Dorman Avenue North. Aylesham’s Beavers and Cubs groups now meet at a different venue. Both groups meet on Monday evenings – Beavers from 5.15pm until 6.30pm (aged 6-8) while Cubs (8-11) gather from 6.45pm to 8.15pm.  Youngsters wanting to join the newly formed Scouts group will be able to meet at the church on Friday evenings between 7.15pm and 8.45pm. If you think your child might be interested in joining, or you are willing to help run the group, please get in touch with leader Cassandra Osborne via 01304 841573 or 07488 243525.

Tuesday 11 September 9.30am-11.30am – Bechange Community Hub, Aylesham Project, Ackholt Road.  Weekly session to help people brush up on their Maths, organised by East Kent College from entry level to level two. Book a place by calling Bechange on 01304 840134.

Tuesday 11 September   6.10pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane. Drum n Bass Workout. 7pm Fierce – The Dance Workout for all ages (14+ with a participating adult).

Wednesday 12 September  10am-12pm – Aylesham Heritage Centre, Dorman Avenue South. All are welcome to drop in between these times to learn more about the history of the village as a whole. The centre features a highly regarded collection of coal mining memorabilia.

Wednesday 12 September  10am 12pm – St Peters Church, Dorman Avenue North, weekly arts & crafts group meeting. Cups of tea, a chance to chat as well as enjoy either painting, drawing, knitting or sewing. No experience needed, please just turn up and meet the friendly group, everyone welcome.

Wednesday 12 September 7pm – Aylesham Parish Council offices, Dorman Avenue South. Annual General meeting of Aylesham4Aylesham. Agenda items include a report on the past year’s activities, election of officers and plans for the next 12 months, which include the Christmas tree lighting and carol singing.  Volunteers are welcome to join in to help. All welcome.

Thursday 13 September  7pm – Aylesham Parish Council holds its monthly meeting at the White House office in Dorman Avenue South. Residents are welcome to attend. Anybody wishing to speak about an agenda item is asked to first contact the parish office on 01304 840377 or email via ayleshamparishcouncil@btinternet.com.

Weekly mother& baby, parent & toddler groups – please let us know if days and times have changed via nick.evans@dover.gov.uk

  • Mondays – St Peter’s Church 9am to 11am Sunbeams parent& toddler group.
  • Tuesdays – Baptist Church, between 10am and 11.30am
  • Wednesdays – Baptist Church, between 9.30am and 11.30am – when a health visitor will be attending.
  • Wednesdays – St Peter’s Church, Dorman Avenue North 12.30pm to 2.30pm. Soft play cafe will be open and is open to all, the equipment will be age restricted.
  • Wednesdays – Bechange, Ackholt Road, 1pm-2.30pm. Little Green Fingers Gang is aimed at children aged 0-4 years and their families. Each week there is fun craft, physical and imaginary play. The club costs £1 for the first child and 50p for every sibling including refreshments. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
