What’s On In and Around Aylesham – from Wed 8 November

This events list is compiled by Dover District Council. Wednesday 8 November 12.30pm to 2.30pm. St. Peter’s Church, Dorman Avenue North. A new Soft Play Cafe will be open for the first time. The soft play equipment was funded by Aylesham Co-Op Community Causes and the seating donated from Discovery Park, Sandwich, for which we are immensely grateful, said Rev Marc Terry. Running weekly, the time has been chosen to fit around other Aylesham events and where provision for 2yrs plus is missing for young people. Entry is free and a cafe light bites menu will be offering refreshments for sale. Hot food and longer opening hours will come as the cafe and volunteers expand, so any volunteers are welcome. The cafe is open to all, the equipment will be age restricted.

Wednesday 8 November 1pm-2.30pm – Bechange, Ackholt Road. Little Green Fingers Gang aims to enable small children to explore the charity’s community garden and learn about the environment through play and fun activities. The club costs £1 for the first child and 50p for every sibling. Free refreshments will be provided. Please dress for the weather! If it is bad, then activities will move indoors, Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Wednesday 8 November 7-8pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane. Snowdown Colliery RFC training session. New players welcome. Please contact either Duncan on 07704 025345 or Tommy on 07989 679177 for more information. You can also follow the club via its Facebook page – Snowdown Colliery. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Wednesday 8 November 7pm-8pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane. Walking football session for over 50s. Non competitive, non contact football and work out. More information from www.canterburywalkingfootball.co.uk

Thursday 9 November – Bechange Community Hub, Aylesham Project site, Ackholt Road. Weekly meetings of village Beavers and Cubs groups.  Beavers (aged 6-8) meet from 5.15pm – 6.30pm and Cubs (aged 8-11) meet from 6.45pm – 8.15pm. The cost is £2 per child per week up to Christmas. Experienced leaders from around the district will be on hand to guide the new group until the end of the year. A number of new adult helpers have already stepped forward to help, however a few more adults are needed in a variety of roles to help keep it all going next year. If you can give some of your spare time, the Beavers and Cubs would love to hear from you.

Friday 10 November 10am-12pm – Bechange, Aylesham Project, Ackholt Road. Benefits and housing advice drop in session. These are held twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays to offer advice about benefit entitlements, bidding for social housing and help completing forms. The sessions include health advice from an NHS advisor. Simply turn up on the day.

Saturday 11 November 12pm-2pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane. Children’s Soccer Saturdays for kids under 16. Bring your mates and have a kick about on the 3G pitch. Price £2 each. More information from the centre on 01304 840661.

Sunday 12 November 10.30am onwards – Market Place. Remembrance Sunday service by new war memorial. Those wishing to walk with the parade should assemble at the Aylesham Project in Ackholt Road at 10.15am before setting out at 10.45am. Two minutes silence at 11am followed by service and laying of poppy wreaths.

Monday 13 November 10am – Aylesham Baptist Church, Dorman Avenue South. Mental Health Fight Club. A place to find friendship and support while enjoying free activities that promote positive mental health. Weekly meeting led by Laura Moncaster.

Monday 13 November 7pm-8pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane. Beyond Limits Boot camp for the village. Fitness sessions for adults and children. More information about ticket prices available from the leisure centre or Google Beyond Fitness.

Monday 13 November 7-8pm – Aylesham Community Project , Ackholt Road. High Intensity Interval Training with BH Dance. £5 on the door, no booking required and second class is free. HIIT workouts are based around the love of dance. The class is for all fitness levels and uses the latest functional training methods to get fast results. BH Dance with Abi is non-judgemental and supportive.

Tuesday 14 November – Aylesham Baptist Church, Dorman Avenue South. Youth club meetings led by Pie Factory Music in three sessions according to age group. 5-6.30pm – Junior session for children in school years four to seven. Activities include art and craft, music, games and table tennis. 7pm to 9pm – Senior session for young people in years eight to 13. Arts and crafts, music, games, table tennis, guidance and support. Tuesday 14 November 7-8pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane. High Intensity Interval Training with BH Dance. Call to book, free for leisure centre members and £5 for non-members.

Wednesday 15 November 10am – 12pm – St Peters Church, Dorman Avenue North, weekly arts & crafts group meeting. Cups of tea, a chance to chat as well as enjoy either painting, drawing, knitting or sewing. No experience needed, please just turn up and meet the friendly group, everyone welcome.

Wednesday 15 November 11am – Parish Council office, Dorman Avenue South. Public meeting to agree a constitution and form a committee aiming to build a new village hall in Aylesham. All welcome to attend.

Saturday 18 November 10am – On the third Saturday of every month 10am to 12pm – Aylesham Baptist Church, Dorman Avenue North, coffee morning with home made cakes and a bits & bobs stall. All welcome. More information from 01304 840947 or visit www.ayleshambaptistfreechurch.co.uk

Friday 24 November 10am-12pm – Aylesham Parish Council offices, The White House, Dorman Avenue South. Monthly drop in surgery session with members of the parish council and Dover district ward councillors who will be available to discuss any local issues with residents.

Saturday 25 November 7pm – Aylesham Baptist Church, Dorman Avenue South. Merry Little Christmas Quiz. Ideal for teams of between six and eight people, tickets £5 per person.

Sunday 26 November 11.15am – St Finbarr’s Roman Catholic Church, Market Place. A celebration mass will be said to mark the 60th anniversary of the opening of the church in 1957. All are welcome and refreshments will be served afterwards. Please bring along any photos and share your memories of the church in previous times.

Sunday 26 November 11am-12pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Baptist Minister Laura Moncaster takes church to the 3G outdoor pitches for a free sport session aimed at 4-11 year olds. Consent forms will be available for signing on the day. There will be a short half time talk on sport and faith.

Tuesday 28 November 2pm-4pm – On the last Tuesday of every month. Tuesday Teas at St Finbarr’s Church, Market Place. A full tea for £1.50 and 50p for children. Sandwiches, cakes and as much tea or coffee as you can manage. All are welcome and there is a free raffle too.

Thursday 14 December 7pm – Aylesham Parish Council holds its monthly meeting at the White House office in Dorman Avenue South. Residents are welcome to attend.
