This events list is compiled by Dover District Council. Wednesday 17 May 10.30am-12.30pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane. Walking football session for over 50s. Non competitive, non contact football and gentle work out.

Wednesday 17 May 1pm-2.30pm – Bechange, Ackholt Road. Little Green Fingers Club aims to enable small children to explore the charity’s community garden and learn about the environment through play and fun activities. The club costs £1 for the first child and 50p for every sibling. Free refreshments will be provided. Please dress for the weather! If it is bad, then activities will move indoors. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Wednesday 17 May 7pm-8pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, non contact rugby for boys and girls aged 11 years or more. Organised by Snowdown CW Rugby Club, no experience is needed and all equipment will be provided, just bring a bottle of water to drink. Admission charge applies. These weekly sessions are a result of new support from Premiership rugby club Harlequins.

Friday 19 May 10am-12pm- Bechange, Aylesham Project, Ackholt Road. Benefits and housing advice drop in session. These are held twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays to offer advice about benefit entitlements, bidding for social housing and help completing forms. The sessions include health advice from an NHS advisor. Simply turn up on the day.

Friday 19 May 1pm-2pm – Bechange, Aylesham Project Centre, Ackholt Road. Story time signing classes begin today. Classes run in six week terms and cost £35 per term. Saturday 20 May 12pm-2pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane. Children’s Soccer Saturdays for kids under 16. Bring your mates and have a kick about on the 3G pitch. Price £2 each. More information from the centre on 01304 840661.

Monday 22 May 11am – Aylesham Tea Room and Thrift shop, Milner Crescent (rear of parish council offices). Open day for residents to see the new building and no doubt enjoy tea and cake. A second event is to be held on Wednesday 24 May to enable grant funders, donors and the tradespeople involved in the construction process to see it as well.

Monday 22 May 7pm-8pm – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane, Beyond Limits Bootcamp for the village. Fitness sessions for adults and children. More information about ticket prices available from the leisure centre.

Tuesday 23 May – Aylesham Baptist Church, Dorman Avenue South. Youth club meetings led by Pie Factory Music in three sessions according to age group. 5-6.30pm – Junior session for children in school years four to seven. Activities include art and craft, music, games and table tennis. 6.30pm to 7pm – Training and development session for school years eight to 13. The emphasis is on training to be a volunteer, achieve awards, update CVs and improve employability. 7pm to 9pm – Senior session for young people in years eight to 13. Wednesday 24 May 10am – 12pm – St Peters Church, Dorman Avenue North, weekly arts & crafts group meeting. Cups of tea, a chance to chat as well as enjoy either painting, drawing, knitting or sewing. No experience needed, please just turn up and meet the friendly group, everyone welcome.

Sunday 28 May – Aylesham Welfare & Leisure Centre, Spinney Lane 11am. One mile long fun run (or walk if you prefer) in support of Pilgrims Hospice Canterbury, organised by the leisure centre. Entry is £5 per person. There will be prizes for the fastest male and female, fancy dress is optional. Live music, food and raffle in the bar afterwards as well. Entries accepted at the centre or register on the day.

Saturday 3 June 11am – St Finbarrs Church, Market Place, Aylesham – Summer Hullabaloo presented by KC’s Dancers. Bouncy castles, cake stall, games, glitter tattoos, Hook a duck, barbecue, raffles and much more to enjoy. Stalls are £10 each – book via dawn.fisher on kcsdancers@gmail.com.

Tuesday 6 June 9.30am onwards – Aylesham Community Project, Ackholt Road. The Coalfields Community Project holds two workshops offering support and information about the funding currently available to projects in the former Kent coalfield area.

9.30am – 10.30am – An introduction to the Coalfields Community Investment Programme: Funding Support – comprehensive information on our eligibility criteria and how to apply for up to £10,000 of funding for projects that will improve the Health, Employment Opportunities or Skills of people living in former coalfield areas. Please note the Trust’s funding is only available to organisations delivering projects in any of the three wards of Aylesham, Middle Deal and Sholden or Mill Hill.

10.45am – 11.30am – An introduction to the Coalfields Community Investment Programme: Practical Support Offer – comprehensive information about an additional range of resources and services available for free to registered/incorporated organisations such as registered charities, companies limited by guarantee, community interest companies and charitable incorporated organisations. The Trust’s support is only available to organisations located in or delivering the majority of their work in the three wards of Aylesham, Middle Deal and Sholden or Mill Hill.

There will be an opportunity to meet CRT staff following each session. Please note the number of places available is limited so please book to secure your attendance. In the event there is insufficient demand for this event the Trust will provide support directly to all eligible applicants and will notify all attendees on 31 May.

Tables will be provided by Bechange. Table only – £6. Table plus space for your own rail – £7. Business table – £8. Refreshments available (set up from 9am). Saturday 23 September – Put this date in your diaries now! Aylesham Carnival will be held on this day. More details to follow nearer the time.

Among the regular events held in Aylesham are dance classes organised by KCs Dancers. The school is active six days a week.  You can view its website for times, venues and prices here.

  • Tuesdays – Baptist Church, between 10am and 11.30am
  • Wednesdays – Baptist Church, between 9.30am and 11.30am – when a health visitor will be attending.
  • Fridays – Baptist Church, between 9am and 11am
  • Fridays 9.45am – Aylesham Library, Ackholt Road (on Aylesham Project site) holds Big Talk Small Play for parents, carers and pre-school children. Volunteers needed to help, please! Contact Lynne Steward at the library on 03000 413131 if you can help.
