Year Six youngsters presented with new trophy

2 April, 2019

Aylesham Primary School’s year six pupils were presented with a new trophy this week after winning a Safety In Action competition arranged by Dover District Council.

In February, the youngsters were among nine primary schools from the district to visit the council’s two day Safety In Action exhibition, which happened to be held in Aylesham, to learn more about staying safe. While there, they had to complete a quiz testing their new found knowledge. The Aylesham pupils came away with top marks.

Dover District Council’s Community Development Manager Shaun Taylor visited Aylesham primary on Monday morning to hand over the trophy during assembly.

He said afterwards: “It was the first time we have held this event and it proved a great success. The new trophy will be up for grabs again next year and we look forward to more schools competing for it then.”

The Safety In Action event was held at the Aylesham Project in Ackholt Road and brought several organisations together to highlight a range of risks and hazards children face as they become more independent and prepare for transition to secondary school.

The exhibitors included Kent Police, Kent Fire & Rescue, RNLI, Kent County Council, British Transport Police and UK Power Networks. The event was hosted by education specialist SALUs, which regularly hosts Safety In Action events around Kent.
